The Seann Triubhas (prounced Shawn Trews), meaning "old trousers" in Gaelic, is a dance that dates back to the 1700s when all of Scotland was banned from wearing kilts by the King of England. It is said that the Scots did not like the feel of cloth on their legs and the dance began as a celebration after the Proscription Repeal allowed them to wear their kilts again! The movements in the dance are said to be shaking their trousers off of their legs and celebrate with the freedom the kilt.
